Phi Delta Theta Fraternity Relief Fund
There has been an outpouring of support by many in our nation for those affected by the events of September 11, 2001. That support has been gratifying to see and it raises the question of what we, as a Fraternity, can do to help, to make the road somewhat smoother for those whose lives have been forever changed.
In an effort to help make a difference where the greatest needs exist, the Fraternity has undertaken a voluntary assistance program involving all of our chapters, alumni clubs, and the General Fraternity itself.
Each of our chapters and alumni clubs have been asked to contribute to a designated fund which will be supplemented by a $25,000 contribution from the General Fraternity. Chapter donations may come from individual contributions, from canceled social events, fundraising events or from other ideas generated by each participating group.
A committee comprised of three undergraduates, a General Headquarters staff member, and a General Council member will make the decision as to where the money raised may best be used. The committee will look to the undergraduate committee members (one from New York Alpha at Cornell University, one from Maryland Alpha at the University of Maryland and one from Ohio Alpha at Miami University) for local recommendations of needs that exist. The committee's greatest challenge will be in making to make selection between the many needs that will be identified.
If you would like to help, please send contributions to:
Phi Delta Theta Fraternity Headquarters 2 South Campus Avenue Oxford, Ohio 45056
Note: Please indicate in the memo portion of your check that your donation is to be designated for the relief fund.
At this time, we are unable to say whether any such gift will be tax deductible, as the uses of the designated funds are yet to be determined by the undergraduate controlled committee. However, 100% of the funds raised will be provided to the appropriate areas of need as determined by the relief fund committee and a letter from the committee reporting on its decisions and the use of the funds will be published in a future edition of The Scroll.
